The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle is an upcoming American fantasy comedy film directed by Stephen Gaghan and written by Gaghan and Thomas Shepherd. It is based on the character Doctor Dolittle created by Hugh Lofting, primarily The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle. Robert Downey Jr. stars as the title character.
The big news is that The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle is costing all parties a whopping $175 million to produce. That’s an obscene amount of money for a film that isn’t remotely a sure thing. Downey Jr. is one of the more famous people on the planet, but he hasn’t really had to prove himself outside of the MCU since Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.
The movie was supposed to be released in 2019 but it was pushed back from April 12, 2019, to January 17, 2020. So it wasn’t just to avoid a showdown with Avengers: Endgame. The film will be released on January 17, 2020 by Universal Pictures, making it the first film based on Doctor Dolittle to not be distributed by 20th Century Fox.
The movie has currently to undergo reshoots or pick-ups as part of the development process (Marvel generally factors them into the initial production budgets), after three pushes. And its finally to be released on January 17, 2020.
