Doctor Sleep: The Shining’s Sequel To Be Released In November 2019

Doctor Sleep is a 2013 novel written by Stephen King. Doctor Sleep is also the sequel of Stephen King’s 1977 novel, The Shining. Directed by Mike Flanagan, the movie will be released on November 8, 2019.

The movie will center around an adult Danny Torrance. The Shining revolved around Danny as a child who had psychic powers called ‘the shining’. However, as an adult, he grows up to be an alcoholic.

Doctor Sleep will be set in the same cinematic universe as The Shining. Shortly after Stephen King published the book in 2013, Warner Bros. Pictures started developing a film adaptation. The movie is about Dan and his alliance with Abra, a teenager who has the same gift as Dan.

Since Dan suffered during his childhood because of his extrasensory gift, he ties up with Abra to seek her help and vice versa. The duo has to fight Rose, who feeds off their ‘shine’ to become immortal.

The official trailer of the movie was released on June 13, 2019. Doctor Sleep’s prequel, The Shining was directed by Stanley Kubrick. However, Stephen King was not satisfied with the film adaptation because of the stark differences in the plot and the movie. King was also contemplating executive- producing a miniseries for his 1977 novel with the same name.

To continue the story of The Shining, Flanagan met with King to work out a way to approach the plot in a systematic way. To keep this mind, Doctor Sleep will have certain features of The Shining to keep the differences minimal. Globally, WB is planning to release the movie on October 30, but in the States and Canada, the movie will be released on 8th of November.
