So what if you could not make it to New York City to see the Emmy nominated Kerry Washington on Broadway in the “American Son”? Netflix has just shown us a peek of its an upcoming venture of the play. The Broadway play starring Kerry Washington will be premiering at the Toronto Film Festival on September 2019. However, Netflix will launch the movie on November 1st.
You will get to see the executive producer cum star Kerry Washington along with her original co-stars from the Broadway show Steven Pasquale, Jeremy Jordan, and Eugene Lee. Kenny Leon will remain the director of the movie.
The Christopher Demos-Brown written show “American Son” reveals you about two racially mixed parents who reunite while questioning the Florida police about their missing teenage son.
Leon also won a Tony award for “A Raisin in the Sun,” and will executive produce the movie alongside Jeffrey Richards and Rebecca Gold.
“American Son powerfully explores themes of family, love, and identity,” said the vice president of the Broadway play, Cindy Holland. She added, “We are honored to work with Kerry Washington, Kenny Leon, Christopher Demos-Brown, and the entire cast to bring this story from the Broadway stage to our members around the world.”
The story will narrate the hardships faced by the black mother, Kendra Ellis-Connor (Kerry Washington) to control the decisions taken by her son. The Netflix featured movie will unclothe the institutional racism and cultural practices/customs that put black children in danger.
“American Son” arrives on Netflix on November 1st.
