On August 16, within the framework of the 42nd anniversary of the death of Elvis Presley, Netflix gave the green light to an animated comedy series for adults about the musical legend entitled Agent King. Variety reported that the project was co-created by his ex-wife Priscilla Presley and musician John Eddie and will be produced by Sony Pictures Animation and the Authentic Brands Group.
The streaming giant shared the following synopsis about the series:
“Elvis Presley changes his white suit for a propeller backpack when he is secretly induced in a secret government spy program to help fight the dark forces that threaten the country he loves, all while maintaining his daily work as the King of Rock & Roll”
Mike Arnold, screenwriter of the hit animated spy comedy Archer, will be the showrunner of Agent King, besides participating as a writer and co-executive producer. Australian animator Fletcher Moules will be involved as a supervising supervisor, while Elvis music industry veteran and close collaborator Jerry Schilling will participate as a consultant. The costumes of the animated series will be supervised by fashion designer John Varvatos. Priscilla Presley and John Eddie will serve as executive producers.
“Since Elvis was a child, he always dreamed of being a superhero who fights crime and saves the world! Agent King allows you to do exactly that. My co-creator John Eddie and I are very excited to work with Netflix and Sony Animation on this amazing project and have the opportunity to show the world an Elvis they haven’t seen before, ”said Priscilla Presley.
Agent King does not have a release date yet. This project will join a list of animated series for adults on Netflix that includes BoJack Horseman, Big Mouth, Disenchantment, F Is for Family, Paradise PD and Love, Death & Robots, as well as upcoming projects such as The Cuphead Show, Hoops, Inside Job and Q-Force.
