Following a series of explosions in various restaurants and public squares in the city of Jalalabad – in the framework of the celebration of the Independence Day of Afghanistan – at least 66 people were injured, the Kabul government announced Monday.
In this regard, the governor of Nangarhar, in eastern Afghanistan, Shah Mahmood Miakhel, explained that the terrorist attacks in Jalalabad, capital of this province, were carried out in different areas of this city.
The bombs were planted near a market where hundreds of people gathered after the celebration of Afghan National Independence Day.
On the other hand, the spokesman of the Nangarhar Governorate, Attaullah Khogiani, stressed that all the injured are in critical condition and that these are mostly civilians.
Khogiani informed local media that at least six mines were discovered and deactivated by security forces in this South Asian nation.
Afghan Ministry of Health spokesman Fahim Bashari confirmed that at least 66 people were injured, including 20 minors.
Yesterday Sunday, at least 63 people died, and hundreds were injured, after a suicide attack registered during the celebration of a wedding in the city of Kabul, and whose responsibility was assumed by the jihadist group Islamic State.
As reported the victims to includes the majority of kids and women followed by the number of men.
The death toll has been likely to rise as many of the injured were in a risky position when admitted in the nearby hospitals
No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the incident so far.
The capital city, with a population of nearly 5 million, has been hit by a series of terror attacks over the past couple of years.
