The Legion star Dan Stevens joins the cast of Netflix upcoming American comedy film Eurovision which is directed by David Dobkin, director of “Wedding Crashers” and “The Judge,” written by Andrew Steele and Will Ferrell. The cast of Eurovision also includes Will Ferrell, Rachel McAdams, Pierce Brosnan, and Demi Lovato who, too, recently joined the cast. According to E-News, the comedy-drama is inspired by the real-life European singing contest of the same name.
Dan has recently finished his three-year stint on FX’s X-Men spin-off Legion and will now be focusing on this Netflix comedy. He will be playing the role of a Russian contestant Alexander Lemtov, who takes part in the European song contest. Ferrell and McAdams play aspiring Icelandic musicians duo, Lars Erickssong and Sigrit Ericksdottir who represent their country at the annual Eurovision song contest. Pierce Brosnan will play Ferrell’s father, Erick Erickssong, who is ‘the most handsome man in Iceland’. Lovato will play Katiana, one of the best and most angelic singers in all of Iceland.
Dan stevens have sung Evermore song in live-action film “Beauty and the Beast” and he also told People: ‘I’d sung at school when I was younger, but in my 20s I [hadn’t] sung as extensively so re-engaging my voice, retraining my voice, was a big challenge.’ So fans of Dan will know that the actor is no stranger when it comes to singing.
Will Ferell had been a huge fan of the eccentric song contest since he was introduced to the competition by his wife, Swedish actress Viveca Paulin. Ferrell and Jessica Elbaum will be producing the project for Gary Sanchez Productions, with Adam McKay as executive producer.
The production of Eurovision is going on in the UK and Iceland and is expected to finish filming soon. As there is no release date of this film confirmed, we can expect to see it on our screens around the time of the next contest, in May 2020.
