Two males in Tennessee on Tuesday were charged with raping a nine-month-old girl and filming the assault. They have been charged with aggravated child rape and a minor’s sexual exploitation.
A release from the office of a Shelby County District Attorney General said the event came to light in October 2016 when the mom of the victim discovered the attack’s cell phone video. After watching the video, she identified Isiah Dequan Hayes, 19, via Facebook and turned the information over to the police.
Police said it was filmed by Daireus Jumare Ice, 22, while Hayes was seen in the video. In February, police recognized Hayes and detained him, while a few days later Ice was also detained. Hayes confessed that the crime was committed, reported Fox News. After his arrest, his family responded with horror to the accusations.
“Hearing this is heartbreaking and frightening. We as a family apologize. I understand that the kid may not remember, but it’s something that a mom will have to hold on to forever. Like, knowing that your kid was subjected to something like that. You’ve trusted your kid with someone, and you’ve got to cope with seeing this on your own,” his brother said.
“During that point in time, he wasn’t mentally stable. Like, I understand his state of mind. He was likely coerced for cash, drugs, and anything. He grew up in the hood, as they say,” he said.
The video allegedly showed Hayes exposing himself and touching the child with his body. The child was nude down from the waist.
Len Edwards, with the Missing and Exploited Children Commission, said, “Well, the first thing to know here is that motivation is not always about sex. It’s about cash, and it’s a $20 billion annual sector.” “When you look at the facts, there are 1.5 million pictures of child pornography in this nation. And last year, according to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, 10,000 of the children were identified. I mean it’s a small, small sample, “he added.
The case was handled by Shelby County DA’s Special Victims Unit’s Assistant District Attorney Lessie Rainey. The men were held with bail set at $10,000 in the Shelby County jail.
A man from Magnolia, Arkansas, was convicted to four successive life sentences for raping and filming a 3-month-old in a comparable event in February this year. He was arrested in 2016 after authorities found child pornography on his laptop and learned some of the pictures were homemade, reported ABC 13. The pictures and videos were compared with family pictures and the victim was found to be his relative. He was discovered guilty of a child’s sexual assault aggravated by first-degree felony.
