Cameron Mathison is demanding fans for their thoughts and prayers after announcing that he has been provided a diagnosis of kidney cancer.
The television host gave his health diagnosis on his Hallmark Channel show “Home and Family” Monday before turning to his Instagram account.
The Hallmark host and actor, who also shared the news about his health on the network’s talk show “Home & Family” earlier this week, revealed to his social media followers that about a month ago, he had an MRI done for “some gut issues” and doctors discovered a tumor on his right kidney.
Mathison said, “It’s consistent with Renal Cell Carcinoma or kidney cancer. The good news is that it hasn’t spread to any other organs🙏🏼 They say my healthy lifestyle and diet has no doubt helped keep it from growing and spreading to other areas, as doctors think it’s been growing in me for minimum ten years🙏🏼.”
The former “All My Children” star went on to tell he is “fortunate” that doctors discovered it early, and he appreciated everyone around him for their “love and support.”

I have a health situation that I want to share with you all🙏🏼 There are many reasons I love social media, staying connected with you all, sharing fun experiences… well this time I’m asking for your help. About a month ago, I had an MRI for some gut issues I’ve been having, and during that MRI they found a tumor on my right kidney. It’s consistent with Renal Cell Carcinoma … or kidney cancer. The good news is that it hasn’t spread to any other organs🙏🏼 They say my healthy lifestyle and diet has no doubt helped keep it from growing and spreading to other areas, as doctors think it’s been growing in me for minimum 10 years🙏🏼. I am extremely lucky that we found it early. Thank you to my longtime friend and urologist @jon_giddens who has helped me tremendously through this process. Vanessa, Lucas and Leila have been absolutely amazing with their love and support… as have my mom, dad, brother, and everyone at Home and Family, Hallmark, and ET❤️ My surgery is scheduled on September 12th, I was hoping to receive positive thoughts, prayers, or whatever you feel comfortable with, on 9/12 (my surgery is at 1pm PST) 🙏🏼 I announced this on @homeandfamilytv yesterday, and wanted to make sure I posted about it here as well. Feeling very grateful and optimistic!! 💪🏼🙏🏼❤️ #thankyou yes
He told he is having surgery to remove the tumor on Thursday, “I was expecting to receive positive thoughts, prayers, or whatever you feel comfortable with, on 9/12.”
Mathison presented a special shoutout to his family for being amazing with their love and support. He also praised his parents and brother, in interest to his colleagues at the Hallmark Channel, “Entertainment Tonight” and “Home and Family.”
The 50-year-old ended his post which was shared alongside a photo of him, his wife, Vanessa, their 13-year-old daughter, Leila and 16-year-old son, Lucas. He wrote that he’s “feeling very grateful and optimistic!!”
Mathison is best identified for playing Ryan Lavery on “All My Children” from 1998 to 2011. His additional acting credits include Hallmark Channel movies like “A Christmas to Remember” and “Very, Very Valentine,” plus guest roles on shows including “Desperate Housewives” and “Castle.”
