“The Stand” is based on an apocalyptic vision of a world decimated by plague and entangled in an elemental struggle between good and evil. The future of humanity rests on the frail shoulders of the 108-year-old other Mother Abagail ( Which will be played by Goldberg) and a handful of survivors. “The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg announced that she is joining the anticipated Stephen King’s adaptation during King’s appearance on her ABC talk show Wednesday morning.
If civilisation breaks down due to an apocalyptic flu bug, perhaps the best characters to have at your side will be Alexander Skarsgard and Whoopi Goldberg.
According to reports, Skarsgard and Goldberg have signed on to join the cast of, based on author Stephen King’s horror novel. It’s being adapted for a new 10-episode series on the streaming service on CBS All Access.
The Stand is based on how almost all of the world’s population dies from a weaponised plague called Captain Trips. Civilisation breaks down with help from an ageless supernatural evil being named(played by Alexander) who encourages disturbance, destruction and violence.
Actor Alexander Skarsgard is known for his roles in the TV shows True Blood and Big Little Lies, and the films Mute and Hold the Dark.
Goldberg will play an elderly character named Mother Abagail who’s the leader of the good peoples. Goldberg announced her daytime talk show The View on Wednesday.
Goldberg won an Oscar for her role for the movie Ghost and starred in other hit movies such as Jumpin’ Jack Flash, The Color Purple and Sister Act.
All Access has also announced that Brad William Henke, Daniel Sunjata, Jovan Adepo and Owen Teague will join previously announced cast members, James Marsden and Amber Heard. Based on the King novel of the same name, the streaming platform announced in August that the prolific author himself will write the final episodes of the series, presenting a “new coda” that goes beyond the book.
The series hails from CBS Television Studios. Ben Cavell and Josh Boone are writers and executive producers. Josh Boone will also direct. Richard P, Jimmy Miller and Roy Lee. Rubinstein also serves as executive producers with Miri Yoonand Will Weiske as co-executive producers. Jill Killington, Owen King and Knate Lee will all produce. No premiere date has been announced yet for the series.
