On Monday, veteran coaches John Legend and Blake Shelton announced that Taylor Swift will work as this season’s Mega Mentor, a role that superstar previously took on during season 7 of the show back in 2014.
“And our @NBCTheVoice mega mentor is….. @TaylorSwift!!! #TheVoice @johnlegend,” Blake, 43, wrote on his Instagram post alongside a video of Legend and him, guessing who the Mega Mentor might be.
Legend posted the very video to his Instagram with the caption, “Our @NBCTheVoice Mega Mentor for Season 17 is VERY MEGA. If only I and @blakeshelton could figure out who it is.”
In her role, Taylor will join Blake, Legend and other coaches Gwen Stefani and Kelly Clarkson to mentor the show’s talent and prepare each team for the Knockout Rounds, which will begin telecast in October. During the Knockout Rounds, the artists will be paired with a partner and select their own songs to perform individually.
“The first season that she came on, she instantly knew what to say, knew what her job was and was great at it,” Shelton tells Sources “This season, she brings even more experience to the table. It’s no accident that she’s the biggest star in the world. She’s not only talented, but she’s really smart. So it’s fun to work with.”
Legend told sources that it was “incredible” getting to see his team members be surprised and sing in front of Taylor Swift.
After the Knockout Rounds then the coaches will select a winner, which will move on to the Live Playoffs. The artists who were not selected by their coach to move on will be available to be stolen by another coach. In this season, each coach will only have one steal.
Along with Normani, Taylor will work as a mentor for Clarkson’s team, Darius Rucker will serve as a mentor for Shelton’s team, Will.i.am will serve as a mentor for Stefani’s team and Usher will serve as a mentor for Legend’s team.
