So, on the 2nd of October DC’s Joker directed by Todd Philip released in theaters. The movie is based on the most infamous villain of DC which is Joker. So, here’s how the movie deals with mental illness. So, let’s break it down.
So, let me tell you that the first word that came out of my mouth when I watched this movie was that it is dark and disturbing. And it’s not only me. I saw many reviews online which say that I couldn’t handle the movie so I left. Some who were able to sit through the whole movie said that I couldn’t talk to anyone for about 5 to 6 hours. So, ideally, there is some content in the movie which is disturbing the audience. And it is the way they deal with mental illness. The story is about Arther Flec who has a lot of mental illnesses and how all the people he meets with think that he is a weirdo or just do not want to talk to him. So, as he spirals down the road he channels his rage and anger in the most sadistic way possible. He kills 3 people in the metro and he feels good about it. Just by chance, those were people from the rich society so people started supporting him and this encourages him to do more stuff like that. Throughout the movie, I felt that if someone actually supported him and many talked to him, he wouldn’t have turned into the joker. Certainly, do not watch this film with your kids because it can really affect their minds. Also, if you are not a fan of disturbing movies with dark endings, stay away from this movie.
Even though there are some problems with the movie, I personally feel that Joaquin Phoenix deserves an Oscar for his acting in this movie. Write down in the comments below with your thoughts about the movie and whether you liked it or not.
