A homeless man, who is mentally ill, randomly assaulted a 6-year-old boy in front of his grandparent’s house in Queens on Thursday afternoon, brutally attacked the boy.
The child was outside of his grandparent’s house on Metropolitan Avenue when the vagrant stepped into their driveway.
The 35-year-old man then took the child, picked him up and threw him to the concrete, banging his face on the ground, police told.
His brother hurried into the home and informed his grandfather regarding the attack.
Rabbi Naftali Portnoy, the boy’s grandfather called 911 and tailed the vagrant, who was shirtless, while he walked away from the scene down Metropolitan Avenue.
Cops came soon after and convicted the suspect, who sat down on the street and told, “I’m bipolar,” the grandfather described.
The kid was brought to Cohen Children’s Medical Center and treated for hemorrhaging to the brain and facial contusions, a source told.
Portnoy told after the attack.“Please keep the child in your prayers.”
A law enforcement source told the defendant has a past of mental illness and was held for assault in January of this year.
The suspect, who was not now recognized, has at least three other arrests including two for criminal mischief in Queens Village in 2017, a source told.
