A seventeen-year-old South Dakota resident faces charges after a missing teenage girl was found dead inside his basement at his home, according to the sources.
Michael Gavin Campbell was charged as an adult Wednesday with the second-degree felony in the death of sixteen-year-old Shayna Ritthaler from Wyoming, the sources confirmed.
Shayna Ritthaler, of Moorcroft, Wyoming, was reported missing Thursday, October 3.
Prosecutors allege that Michael shot her after the duo got into a heated argument at his residence near Sturgis.
Shayna’s body was found on Monday, October 7, when officials performed a search warrant on the residence.
The Meade County Sheriff’s Office refused to issue a cause of death pending a post-mortem. Michael’s lawyer said that he will petition the trial be moved to juvenile court. His lawyer said that his client will appeal not guilty at his court appearance programmed for Thursday, October 17.
