Marissa Mowry, 28, jailed for 20 years for physically abusing a boy when he was 11-years-old. She was his ex-nanny and got pregnant with his child. On Thursday, she sits in a Hillsborough County courtroom court before her punishment hearing.
The physical abuse occurred while the boy was 11-year-old. The abuser was his family’s 22-year-old live-in babysitter.
She physically abused him at least 15 times over several months. In the year 2014, she gave birth to his child. Three years passed before the boy had the determination to describe his mother what occurred.
She must also complete 10 years of physical abusing probation upon her release from prison. There was no high drama as Mowry, now 28, learned her punishment. Standing handcuffed in a red jail uniform, she listened impassively as Hillsborough Circuit Judge Laura Ward designated her a physical predator. That means when Mowry is freed she will spend the rest of her life adhering to a series of strict conditions.
No witnesses testified. But Assistant Public Defender Antina Mobley gave a small remark of Mowry’s past. She talked of an abusive childhood and parents who were away from Mowry’s life. The attorney told Mowry was homeless for a moment. She earned her high school diploma while in prison.
The identity of the 17-year-old is not revealed because he is a victim of physical abuse.
The 17-year-old brings his son to school in the morning and goes to school himself. When Mowry gave birth, they believed the father was her boyfriend.
In 2017, after her son told her what occurred, Campbell said to the authorities. A DNA test later proved that the boy was the father of the nanny’s child.
When detectives asked her, Mowry alleged that the boy had forced himself on her. But in a phone call with the boy, which investigators recorded, she recognized that was not real.
She was caught in 2017 on multiple counts of physical abuse of a victim under the age of 12 and physical abuse while in custodial authority.
