A teenage mother allegedly physically assaulted her one- month old child, then left him alone to go out on a date.
Mykyta, only a month old, was found beaten and experiencing near death in Rivne, Ukraine.
According to witnesses, one of the neighbors fainted after seeing the baby in such a pathetic condition.
The mother and child lived together in a social hostel. The mother, who remains unnamed, left the baby alone to go on a date on October 15. She was away the whole day, and consequently, the neighbors who were knowledgeable of the baby being alone started worrying. They decided to check on the baby boy. Tetiana Prymark, a neighbor from next door, told media outlets that they saw the baby in a cradle as they entered the room. The baby’s right eye was blue and black, nose blocked with dried blood, and barely breathing. The neighbors started changing his clothes, only to discover that he had black bruises all over his body. A woman fainted after seeing the baby’s condition.
The police and an ambulance were called, and the baby was rushed to concentrated care. He is in a critical condition and is still battling for his life.
Medical professionals are assuming that the child had skull fractures that can’t be examined due to his grave condition.
The head of the intensive care unit said that he had never seen a baby in such a neglected baby. “I think the mother never changed his clothes nor use diapers. His skin is in awful condition.” When the mother returned home the next morning, she was taken to a police department for interrogation. Anton Kurk, the police spokesperson, said that the mother said she was stressed out due to the baby’s constant crying.
A criminal case for assault and failure to fulfill parental duties have been launched against the mother, who is 19 years old. A social service psychologist said that there was no doubt that the child was brutally beaten up. But the mother claimed that she never touched the baby, and the bruises were due to a cold draft.
The child’s father, who is 27, is not interested in the boy’s face. The head of the social hostel said that the woman had an older son, who is three years old. He was taken from the mother to a rehabilitation center due to domestic abuse. Different men fathered both the children. Social services are currently collecting evidence to sue the mother. If found guilty, she will face up to five years in prison. The boy will be placed in an orphanage, and she will be deprived of parental rights.
