A manny in California already charged with molesting children bears up to 690 years behind bars after additional charges for abusing 17 boys in his care were added.
30-year-old Matthew Antonio Zakrzewski was detained on May 17 by the Laguna Beach Police Department at a local airport after deplaning from an international flight.
The Costa Mesa native was initially charged with three felony counts of lewd acts with a minor under the age of 14 and one felony count physically abusing a child under the age of 10.
The former babysitter declared not guilty to the original charges and is currently being kept at the Orange County Jail on a $1.25million bail. Zakrzewski now has 33 total felony counts against him.
The alleged victims were as youthful as two. Authorities started investigating the man in May 2019 after a Laguna Beach couple insisted that the babysitter inappropriately touched their 8-year-old son. The parents gave their concerns for other children that Zakrzewski worked with.
The couple had hired Zakrzewski through one of his many babysitting websites. Investigators with the Laguna Beach Police Department’s Major Crimes & Intelligence Unit soon discovered of a 7-year-old alleged victim from Los Angeles.
They quickly discovered 10 more alleged victims throughout Southern California. Authorities think that the exploits were committed between January 1, 2014, and May 17, 2019.
Zakrzewski was one of the originators of ‘My Sitter/Buddy’ a website devoted to ‘connecting Orange County-based children with quality, pre-screened sitters – any day & any time of the week.’
