A Kansas dad faces felony charges later deputies say he locked his 4-year-old boy in a bedroom alone with no access to food or a toilet then went to work.
Blayke Reynolds, 22, is filled with three felonies, including aggravated child endangerment following deputies found his 4-year-old son in what they say were inhumane positions in an Iola, Kansas, room.
“There was such a strong ammonia smell in the room. The room was just unendurable. Of course, there’s waste and everything. No way, shape, or form they were breathing conditions for any individual, let alone a 4-year-old boy,” said Allen County Sheriff Brian Murphy.
Deputies forced their step into the home Nov. 4 and smashed into the locked room, where they found the boy after a neighbor noticed him slamming on the window and calling for help at nearly 5 p.m.
The 4-year-old had no meal and no access to a toilet.
Doctors examined the boy at the hospital. He is in good health has been returned to the care of his mom, according to Murphy.
Reynolds is being carried on a $10,000 bond. He is arrested for knowingly leaving his son for nearly 12 hours while he was at work in La Cygne, Kansas, which is about an hour and a half from the house.
Murphy told Reynolds has irregular visitation rights to see the son. He told deputies he could not provide childcare.
Neighbor Leo Wood says he and his family members would notice see the 4-year-old in the bedroom glass. His stepdaughter is the one who called deputies when she sensed something wasn’t right.
Deputies are examining reports this may not have been the first time the little boy was locked in the bedroom and left singly.
