Sony’s Universe second entry of Marvel Characters lands next summer in the form of Morbius, this superhero vampire film starring Jared Leto as the so-called tormented bloodsucker; it was first published, the most we could’ve hoped for was a team-up with Tom Hardy’s Venom at a point. But the landscape has changed quite a bit over the last few months as Sony and Disney renegotiating terms, an MCU crossover is now theoretically on the cards.
Tom Holland can now appear, as fan will know, as Spider-Man in Sony’s films. It also hears that the reverse is also true and Sony’s characters may appear in the MCU as well.
The source also told us a Green Lantern show was happening, and that Bill Murray is returning for Ghostbusters 3, both of which have been confirmed. Marvel has eyes on Morbius appear in their franchise later down the line and most likely, they’re contemplating using him in the Blade reboot or in the Midnight Sons project.
American actor Mahershala Ali was confirmed to be playing Blade in a new movie over the summer but a release date has yet to be ascribed to the production. It’ll introduce the occult world into the MCU for the first time and in a movie that could star Dracula, Michael Morbius would feel at home.
It is reported that a Midnight Sons movie might occur, which would star characters like Blade, Moon Knight, Ghost Rider and Jon Bernthal’s Punisher. Leto’s Morbius would fit in alongside these R-rated anti-heroes.
2020’s Morbius could set the foundation for an MCU crossover with cameos for both Holland and J.K. Simmons’; John Jonah Jameson thought to be on the cards. Let’s hope it happen and makes a similar impact at the box office to Venom so that both studios can fulfill their big plans for the character.
