NASSAU COUNTY– Family and friends are grieving over the death of a 24-year-old mother from Nassau County. Flowers and a stuffed animal now lie beneath a tree, next to the road where the young mother had died.
Hailey Hutto leaves behind a 2-year-old daughter. “Her daughter Mila now has to grow up without her mom.” Lauren Duke answered. She held back tears explaining her best friend.
According to a Nassau County police statement, Hutto was in the back seat heading home from a party with 2 friends.
Witnesses told they noticed the rear car door open and close while the car was parked at a stop sign. When it began to move again, they tell Hutto went head first out of the car.
”It’s just a freak accident,” Duke told.
The driver, 23-year-old Ashley Collum, is being kept at Nassau County Jail on $750,004 bond. Police told she continued to drive off after Hutto was out of the car.
She is charged with DUI manslaughter, DUI causing death and defeat to give information and render aid.
Collum and another passenger later came back to the scene to talk with the police. They insisted Hutto had a habit of jumping out of cars.
“It wasn’t unusual for Hailey to be impulsive,” Duke replied, refusing to elaborate beyond that. She told right now, friends are concentrating on supporting the family. “This was very sudden, so they will require all the help they can get.”
