A 38-year-old man who gave news last Friday (Nov 8) for stabbing his heavily-pregnant wife has been filled with the offense at the Sessions Court here on Thursday (Nov 14).
Zulkifli Taib screamed as the charge was recited to him in front of Sessions Court judge Mahyon Talib. No plea was read from the assistant audio engineer. Clad in a grey polo shirt and blue jeans, the accused remained crying throughout the procedures.
According to the charge sheet, Zulkifli voluntarily made hurt to his 35-year-old wife with a folding knife, ending in her suffering from a splenic hematoma.
He is said to have done the offense on Nov 8 at about 9 am, at a place at Jalan Kenyalang, Phase 4, Precint 9 in Putrajaya. Zulkifli was accused under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which provides a jail term of not more than 10 years, or a fine, or whipping, or with any two of such trials, upon conviction.
He can also be penalized under Section 326A of the Penal Code, which carries jailing for a term which may increase to twice the most term for which he would have been responsible for a conviction for that offense under the relevant section, notwithstanding any other penalty provided for that offense.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurliyana Mohd Jafri claimed for the court’s approval to admit Zulkifli to Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta, the mental hospital previously known as Hospital Bahagia Tanjung Rambutan, for inspection according to Section 342(5) of the Criminal Procedure Code.
DPP Nurliyana told the accused already had an appointment at Putrajaya Health Clinic on Dec 6 as there was a doubt on the state of his mind.
Judge Mahyon ordered Zulkifli to be hospitalized for a month for observation. She also fixed Dec 13 for case mention and for the psychiatric report to be presented to the court. Zulkifli was unrepresented.
The atmosphere at court was dark as the accused’s parents and other family members talked to him after the procedures before he was taken elsewhere by the police. His mom was seen crying uncontrollably as she was speaking to him.
The media reported on the matter, stating that a 37-week pregnant lady had driven herself to Putrajaya Hospital on Nov 8 to seek treatment later being stabbed by her man. The woman, a teacher, fortunately, gave birth through operation on the same day.
