A court authorized arrest warrants yesterday for 2 men indicted for physically molesting and confining a teen girl who committed suicide on Friday due to what her family tells was emotional distress brought on by the abuse.
One of at least 2 suspects in the assault of the 13-year-old girl in Bangkok’s Khlong Toei district had already been arrested on a weapons charge while police are seeking the other.
“Both defendants bear charges for physically abusing the girl,” police representative Krissana Pattanacharoen told
The case came to the light when the girl, Pinkie, committed suicide by jumping from her Suan Luang-district apartment building and then died on Friday, just before midnight. Before her death, Pinkie got into an argument with her mother and ran to the roof and jumped.
Some media outlets have published a photo taken by Pinkie of her legs dangling from the roof and sent to a friend just before she died. “I’m about to go, I love you,” her message stated.
On Saturday, her 45-year-old mother registered a report with police in Khlong Tan police accusing a gang of men of imprisoning and physically abusing her daughter on Nov. 11, the night of Loy Krathong, in Khlong Toei’s Khlong Tan area. Some reports place the number included upward of 6 men.
Her mother told the assault sent her daughter into an intense depression. The police discovered the unregistered firearm during a raid of the first suspect’s home, leading to his arrest.
Pinkie’s mother notified police that her daughter was locked up in a Khlong Tan district apartment and attacked for some time last week. Krissana, of the Royal Thai Police, would not specify how long Pinkie was restrained by the suspects but told she likely first met them on the night of the event.
“There were 2 girls and 2 boys on the night of the event. One of the girls, Pinkie, is dead. Warrants have been assigned for both boys,” he stated, adding that the remaining girl remains a person of interest while the matter is thoroughly investigated. Krissana told more details would be issued as the investigation continues.
