A pedophile was imprisoned for molesting a minor girl while being investigated for a series of crimes against children.
The monstrous man molested the child as police built a case against him for grooming 4 people he believed were children as young as 12. Ashley Vernon, Pizza delivery driver was originally detained by undercover pedophile catchers after he sent them physically lewd messages and photos, thinking they were minors.
In actuality, they were decoys established by the vigilantes, who turned up at his former address to confront him. Vernon, 33, was not at his house in Heanor, Derbyshire, but the pedophile hunters succeeded to trace him to a pub in Somercotes.
He drove himself to Ripley Police Station in Derbyshire after being faced and was imprisoned. Stuart Lody, prosecuting, spoke to Derby Crown Court how Vernon formed a fake username on social media and started texting ‘Cherry, Holly, Ellie and Anna’ – a group created by the pedophile catchers.
But while being investigated, Vernon prayed on another minor girl and physically abused her in his pizza delivery van.
Mr. Lody told that Vernon touched her and talked her into doing the same to him. When he was caught a second time, the predator revealed what happened in the van.
He declared guilty to charges including physical activity with a child, trying to push a child into engaging in physical activity and causing a child to watch a lewd act. Laura Pitman, mitigating, told her client – who had one unrelated previous conviction for harassment – had declared guilty and spared his victim the need to come to court and give evidence.
Judge Shaun Smith QC gave Vernon a 6-year jail sentence – but he will remain on license until 2028 and on the criminal register for life.
