India is again being subjected to undesired publicity over brutal molestation.
The crime is becoming so commonplace in India it rarely makes headlines, however on the international scene the position is far different.
The latest crime happened on Thursday in Coimbatore, the second-largest city in the state of Tamil Nadu, but details were not announced until Saturday when some of those concerned were detained.
Police tell a Class 11 schoolgirl was celebrating her birthday, in association with her boyfriend at a park in Coimbatore’s Seeranaickenpalayam area. The pair were on their way house after a birthday dinner.
A gang of 6 men, all in their early to mid-20s faced the 16-year old girl and her friend. They supposedly set upon the boy and struck him up.
Then they supposedly dragged the girl to an isolated place and molested her, police told.
The gang recorded the encounter and scared to show the footage if she reported the assault to the authorities.
On Saturday, police told that they had captured 4 of the men, all aged between 22 and 25, while the hunt for the other 2 is continuing. Police tell that the 2 men still at large planned the assault.
Coimbatore City Police have developed search squads that are combing the city.
The names of the 4 caught who remain in custody were issued on Saturday. They are Karthikeyan, Rahul, Prakash, and Narayanamoorthy.
Police tell their investigation into the attack is continuing.
