A cheerleading and gymnastics teacher in San Antonio was busted for allegedly physically assaulting a teen student — including once in the presence of his own child, according to reports.
Robert Thomas Kotara, 33, was held Friday and is facing charges of physical assault of a minor, media reports.
The alleged sufferer, now 18, told police Kotara first physically assaulted her when she was 16, and the attacks then fitted a “regular occurrence,” according to an arrest affidavit received by the outlet.
Meanwhile, one alleged incident, she told analysts Kotara asked her to babysit for his child while he went to work. But instead of leaving, the teen said the coach physically assaulted her while the child played nearby in the same room, the Express-News reports.
On different occasions, she alleged Kotara asked her to run an errand with him then took her to a hotel and plied her with drinks, according to the outlet.
Different coach at Kotara’s gym told police he noticed the victim sitting without clothes on the coach’s lap in his office, and later revealed detectives text messages from July 2018 where he faced Kotara.
Kotara next claimed he wasn’t wearing shorts at the time because it was hot in his office, media reports.
The teen finally tried to distance herself from Kotara by switching her phone number, but the coach allegedly continued to talk her daily through email, according to the News-Express.
The gym he owns, which was not mentioned in court docs, had been closed as of Friday, reports.
Kotara is also handling theft and burglary charges for allegedly breaking into a gym and robbing two fans before trying to sell them to different businesses, the station reports.
