Two Honolulu cops were shot to death Sunday morning and third injured when they reacted to complaints of stabbing a man. Inside minutes a prosperous neighborhood at the base was on fire.
Police sources distinguished the man as Jerry Hanel, 69, a man with a history marked by sporadic conduct who supposedly set off the event by stabbing his landowner when she attempted to remove the man from home on Hibiscus Road.
He met the three reacting officers with gunfire when they arrived at about 9:30 a.m. The man is also assumed to have set the fire that destroyed the home around 15 minutes after the incident before spreading to a more significant amount of the area.
The news media said in any event 12 houses were affected by the fire, within any event four a complete loss. A few vehicles, including police vehicles, were likewise destroyed.
The Police Officer Died At The Hospital
The two officials, one possibly female, died at the medical clinic. The third officer was shot in the leg by the man.
The owner, recognized by friends as Lois Cain, was taken to the medical clinic in critical condition. KHON said specialists accept she was attacked with a digging tool.
The news media said that Hanel planned to go on preliminary on January 27 for abuse of the 911 system, On a date that delayed from October. The supposed crime occurred on May 28, and Hanel had argued not guilty for the crimes.
The paper moreover said that four distinct individuals filed seven separate brief controlling orders against the man.
