The protagonist Andy Barber (Evans) is at the center of the tale as he discovers himself torn among his sworn duty to uphold justice and his unconditional love and feel for his teenage son, Jacob Barber, who was accused of murder. There are two different types of suspense here in “Defending Jacob,” a courtroom drama that hinges on the killing of a high schoolboy. The first arrives from trying to guess who killed him. The other is based on whether this book’s author, a former district attorney, has developed the chops to project himself into the Scott Turow tier of legal-eagle blockbuster writers. In 2012 it had been first optioned for a movie showrunner then Mark Bomback opted to show the story into a limited series.
Direct From The Protagonist
Evans says he’s picky, so Defending Jacob cut. He is not an actor that works all the time, and also he is a little more mercurial by nature and likes to take his time. Luckily whenever he finds the impetus to work, there’s been material that fits his creative appetite. This project he had read while working on something in New York, and just kept coming back to it.
