A California man faces jail time after investigators say he brutally beat a toddler boy to death inside a car in the area of Longwood.
According to the reports, police detained 32-year-old Charles Edward Davis Jr. on Sunday in Inglewood, after he fatally attacked 2-year-old William Meeks III. The man was charged with murder and attack.
Police officials said the incident occurred in a parking lot at a liquor store of the 900 block of Daisy Avenue. Davis supposedly parked his silver 2016 Hyundai Sonata at the liquor store while the boy was inside the vehicle.
At around 7:35 p.m., according to detectives, Davis attacked the toddler to the point that he became unconscious. Police officers arrived and discovered the boy in the hands of a spectator who attempted to give aid and help the toddler.
“During their inquiry, investigators uncovered that the suspect and the victim were alone inside a parked car in the 900 block of Daisy Avenue when the attack happened”.
“When officials arrived on the scene, the boy “Meeks” was in the hands of a Good Samaritan who was trying to give medical aid,” the Long Beach Police Department said in a news conference.
Initially, officials considered a medical issue caused the boy’s condition. A recent post-mortem report verified that the man brutally attacked Williams.
Two Days Later, The Boy Died At The Hospital
Davis will continue to be in jail on a $2 million bond. The police officer said the man was a friend of the child’s mother.
The case is continuous. Anyone with information is requested to reach the California officials and police as soon as possible.
