A lady has been charged in connection with the discovery of a young woman discovered dead inside a South Philadelphia basement.
Officials charged 25-year-old Maddison Leidy with abuse of a corpse, tampering with proof, conspiracy and other related charges for purportedly keeping 18-year-old Erin Schweikert’s body in her basement on Porter Street, near 21st Street.
Schweikert had been missing from October. She was last seen along Front Street, and her parents has been seeking for her since then. But when officers issued a warrant at Leidy’s residence last week, they saw the teenager’s decomposing body covered in a plastic bag inside a large storage tub.
There were no marks of trauma to the body. The medical examiner is still anticipating toxicology results and has not yet ruled on the purpose of death.
It is unclear how Leidy knew Schweikert, but cops are investigating the case for links to possible human trafficking.
Leidy remains in jail on 10% of 500,000 bails. Her next court date is scheduled for Feb. 5.
