Denver police declared one of their own detained on suspicion of physical assault. They tell 29-year-old Johnny Leon-Alvarez is the suspect.
Police tell they got a report of a physical assault from a woman who went to a Dave and Busters with Leon-Alvarez. The woman said to the police that Leon-Alvarez took her home.
The woman tells that initially, she met the defendant in December of 2019 when she and her significant other were involved in a dispute. Leon-Alvarez was one of the responding deputies.
The woman said to police that Leon-Alvarez began texting her afterward to “check on her.” The text messages “became flirty.”
After a few weeks, the two chose to go on a date at Dave and Busters.
Leon-Alvarez brought her home and walked her to her door. The woman tells that she said goodnight at the door but doesn’t remember how he got inside the apartment.
The victim’s roommate informed police she got a notification on her cellphone from the security camera. She tells that she listened to the victim say goodnight, and then heard her say “no” and “please stop” many times.
Charges And Sentences
Leon-Alvarez arrested on Friday morning on suspicion of physical assault.
He is in jail. He’s been with the office since 2018.
Officials tell that he’s suspended without pay pending the result of the inquiry.
