A 32-year-old has been held on suspicion of beating a two-year-old boy to death inside a vehicle in Long Beach last summer.
Charles Edward Davis Jr., 32, was pulled in on Sunday and charged with murder and attacking a child resulting in death.
Detectives consider Davis battered William Meeks III later parking his silver 2016 Hyundai Sonata outside a liquor store in the 900 blocks of Daisy Avenue on June 16.
When police entered the scene, the boy was already in the arms of a Good Samaritan who was seeking to give first aid.
Meeks was hurried to hospital but died two days later, media reported.
Davis is known to be a neighbor of the child’s mother.
The matter was first treated as a medical emergency before a post-mortem found the toddler’s death was the outcome of blunt force trauma.
Davis’ bond was set at $2 million. A hearing date was not set down.
