Connecticut Man Arrested For Brutal Beating Death Of His 2-Year-Old Stepson
A Connecticut man was arrested Thursday for allegedly beating his 2-year-old stepson to death in June. Citing an arrest warrant, the Hartford Court reported that Hayden Campbell yelled, cried and cried at a relative before leaving with his stepfather, Jeremiah Benson. Less than five hours later, Campbell suffered a skull fracture and a cerebral hemorrhage that proved fatal.
Campbell indicated that he did not want to accompany Benson while he was in the hospital, where they had met after Campbell’s mother gave birth to her younger brother. Campbell left with Benson the night of June 25. At 1 p.m., the boy was back in the same hospital as a seriously injured patient, according to the court.
How did the child died:
Campbell died of cardiac arrest two days later. Months later, state police determined that Benson caused the boy’s death and was at risk of first-degree murder, first-degree assault, and injury to a child.
According to the order, Campbell’s mother told authorities that Benson was having anger problems, and a neighbor claimed the couple fought several times a week. The neighbor also said they were seeing Benson’s mother Smack Campbell behind her head.
Claims implemented on him:
The order stated that another neighbor claimed they saw Campbell “hold tight” Tey as they pulled Benson out of the car seat. A third resident allegedly told officers that Benson “was always yelling at the boy.”
The day before the fatal incident, a relative asked Campbell if Benson was good for him, to which the boy replied, “No!”
Other Major Details about the incident:
A source reported that a doctor wrote that falling out of bed “may have caused a skull fracture, but it is unlikely to cause subdural bleeding and complete cardiac arrest.”
