A Marshville mother has been charged with endeavored murder and offensive child abuse after police discovered a newborn baby alive in a plastic bag.
Casey Marie Thomas, 24, has been jailed after giving birth at home on Wednesday, officials said.
Following the birth, detectives believe Thomas put the infant in a plastic bag and covered him outside under leaves. A concerned family member later took Thomas to Atrium Union for treatment after marking large amounts of blood loss.
Medical personnel witnessed evidence of a recent childbirth, despite the disapproval of pregnancy by Thomas. Officers reacted to the home in the 8600 block of East Highway 74 and located the baby after hearing a faint cry.
The child was hurried to the hospital in Monroe where he remains in good condition.
