A fraudulent door-to-door magazine salesman decided to take advantage of a disabled proposed customer and molested her.
Benjamen Gilbert, 37, was imprisoned for 40 years on Tuesday for the attack on the woman in The Woodlands, Texas, on January 6.
Gilbert was going door-to-door misleading to sell magazines on the day of the assault and invade into his 48-year-old victim’s residence after she opened the door to him. He rested on her sofa, then molested her and left.
Woman Called For Help
The woman called her family, who promptly notified their local sheriff’s office. Witnesses agreed with prosecutors’ statements that Gilbert was an opportunistic predator who realized the woman was weak and exploited her.
Four days before the molestation, a man matching Gilbert’s description was reported to police by another resident of The Woodlands after he tried to enter her home.
Gilbert was arrested on January 8 two days after the woman’s molestation after a third resident of the area called police to report a suspicious person in their area. He was picked up on an outstanding arrest warrant and admitted to the molestation shortly afterward.
As part of his plea deal which saw him admit the intensified assault of a disabled person, Gilbert’s victim has been conferred a record protection order from him.
