5 Actors Who Turned Down A Role In ‘Game Of Thrones’

Game of Thrones is the top-rated series of HBO that has created a record in Television history. The series is influenced by the books of George R. R. Martin titled A Song of Ice and Fire. David Benioff and D. B. Weiss are the creators of the series. It was a very long-running series as it broadcasted on HBO from April 17, 2011, to May 19, 2019.

The series has created an enormous fan base around the globe, and it has won multiple awards, including 58 Primetime Emmy Awards. It featured stars like Sean Bean, Emile Clarke, Kit Harrington, Jason Momoa, Sophie Turner, Richard Madden, Kristofer Hivju, and many talented stars. Earlier, many actors have lost the chance to feature in the epic series as they turned down the role they offered to play in it. So we have come up with a list of those actors, have a look:

1. Tamzin Merchant 

Tamzin Merchant, who played the character of Catherine Howard in the Tudors series, turned down the role of Daenerys Targaryen. Sources confirmed that she was offered the position of Mother of Dragons, but she ultimately refused to play it. Then the role went to Emile Clarke, and she has done a fabulous job as she nailed the part.

2. Gillian Anderson 

Sources revealed that the Hannibal star refused to do the role of Cersei Lannister. Then the part goes directly to Lena Headey. Even the daughter of Anderson also opened up about her mother rejecting the part that she felt angry when she knew that her mother turned down a role in Game of Thrones.

3. Jennifer Ehle 

The Pride and Prejudice star named Jennifer Ehle was the first choice to play the role of Catelyn Stark. She turned down the role because of having issues with the production crew. She has a problem with the timings of the filming which made her leaving the project. Then the part goes to Michelle Fairley.

4. Mark Strong 

There were rumors that Shazam star Mark Strong refused to play the part of King  Stannis Baratheon. He reportedly did it because of the film Low Winter Sun that released in 2013. Then the part goes to Stephen Dillane.

5. Izzy Meikle Small 

Izzy Meikle Small was first appointed to play the part of Sansa Stark. But then the role was just delivered to Sophie Turner. The reason is not cleared until now.
