Greta Celeste Gerwig (b. 1983, Sacramento, California) started in independent film acting (Frances Ha, Mistress America — both co-written with partner Noah Baumbach) before directing Lady Bird (2017) and Little Women (2019). Barbie (2023) became the highest-grossing film of the year and a Best Picture nominee.
Gerwig writes with rhythm and casts with care. Her films often center young women figuring out their relationships to mothers, ambition, and place. She lives in Brooklyn with Baumbach and their children.
Her next project is reportedly a Netflix adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia.
