News

Streaming & Cinema News

What's coming, what's happening, and what it means for what you watch tonight.

What we cover

Studio greenlights, casting announcements, festival results, streaming launches, subscriber numbers — but only when there's editorial value beyond a press release. We pass on celebrity gossip, "first look" PR drops, and box-office horse-race coverage that doesn't change what's worth watching.

Every story carries the byline of a named critic and links the news back to titles in our review archive when relevant.

What kinds of news we cover

Studio Slates

Major greenlights, sequels, prestige projects from A24, Searchlight, Studio Ghibli, Yash Raj.

Festival Wins

Cannes, Venice, TIFF, Berlinale, Sundance. We report from the ground when we can.

Streaming Moves

Catalogue shifts, platform launches, subscriber numbers when they change what we recommend.

Casting & Adaptations

When a director or lead is locked in and the choice signals what the film will be.

News FAQ

Our news desk

How quickly do you publish news after announcements?
Within 2-4 hours of a verified source for major news (studio announcements, festival results, major casting). Same-day for everything else. We do not publish rumors from anonymous Twitter accounts.
Where do you source from?
Studio press releases first, then trade press (Variety, Hollywood Reporter, Deadline, IndieWire, FilmCompanion), official festival press centers, and our own reporting at festivals when applicable.
Do you do exclusives or original reporting?
Yes, when we have a credible scoop. We mark exclusives clearly and credit sources where possible. We do not run anonymous-source pieces without two independent confirmations.
How is news different from a review?
News is reporting on events: what happened, who said what, what was announced. Reviews are critical analysis: what we think of the finished work. The two desks have different bylines and standards.
Can I subscribe to news alerts?
Yes — The Morning Brief bundles the day's most important news with our reviews. Three minutes weekday mornings. No spam.
