Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s first Netflix limited series is exactly what you’d expect: opulent, melodramatic, three times longer than necessary, and at moments breathtaking.
What Works
Manisha Koirala anchors the ensemble. The musical sequences (Tajdar-e-Haram, Sakal Ban) are gorgeous. The female-led ensemble is refreshing.
What Doesn’t
Pacing is uneven. The British Raj subplot is undercooked.
